Bastille Day ...

Today is France's national day. 14th of July or Bastille Day.

Today we commemorate the chopping off of some royal heads.

Or, as someone once told my husband when he asked how the French could celebrate the guillotining of their royals, and he was told, "No, that we do not do. We celebrate the fact that France had given the world democracy."

So, voila, now you know.

There will be a military parade along Avenue des Champs-Elysees in the morning and a fireworks display at the Eiffel Tower at night. There were already street parties in all of our cities, towns, villages and communes last night.

Now, what I like to ask is why France keeps up with the military parade? In our day and age, does France really have to parade its military might? I don't think so.

I mean who are our partners in this? China, North Korea. Even Russia dropped the weapons parade when it dropped communism.
